"It may not seem like it, but I'm trying my best... to navigate this path I'm on."
—Daigo Dojima to Kazuma Kiryu, Yakuza 5.

Daigo Dojima is a recurring character within the Yakuza series, appearing as a major character in Yakuza 2 and its remake Yakuza Kiwami 2, a major character in Yakuza 3, a major character and one of the main antagonists of Yakuza 4, a supporting character in Yakuza 5, a minor character in Yakuza 0, a supporting character in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and a major character in Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

Daigo is the son of the late Dojima Family Patriarch Sohei Dojima and one-time Tojo Clan Acting Chairwoman Yayoi Dojima. At Kazuma Kiryu's request, he is appointed as the Sixth and current Chairman as the Tojo Clan, a position he holds through the majority of his appearances in the Yakuza titles beginning with Yakuza 3.

As the Sixth Chairman of the Tojo Clan, Daigo inherited a divided and unstable organization, and multiple entries in the Yakuza series deal with unrest under his rule, or conflicts with rival groups. Throughout his long-standing position in the games, Daigo usually serves as a core ally to Kiryu, with whom he shares a strong bond. In spite of that, the character has also served as a major antagonist in Yakuza 4.

History

Background

Daigo Dojima was born in 1976, as the only known offspring of Dojima Family Patriarch Sohei Dojima and his wife, Yayoi. Being Sohei's son, Daigo lived a privileged life and was watched over by the Dojima Family's members.

By 1988, the young Daigo formed a particularly strong bond with one of Sohei's newer men, Kazuma Kiryu, who would often come to play with Daigo. Years later, Daigo would admit that he looked up to Kiryu as his hero.

Post-Yakuza 0

In October 1995, Daigo's father Sohei was shot dead by Dojima Family member Akira Nishikiyama for trying to rape Yumi Sawamura. However, to Daigo and the rest of the Tojo Clan, the killer was said to be Kiryu.

In 2001, during a job in Kansai, Daigo was set up by Ryuji Goda of the Omi Alliance. He was then arrested under the charges of weaponry possessions, and imprisoned for several years.

At some point prior to December 2006, Dojima was released and left to wander the streets of the Sotenbori district in Kansai. He fell into alcohol and began to hang out with several thugs who followed him around.
